Madurai, India: Almost 26,800 servings of free food offered to homeless and hungry from around the Madurai region.

The Shyamalapeetha Sarvajnapeetham Madurai center celebrated today the Avani Moolam Festival, on this Avani Moolam Nakshatra, a day of rituals and festivities dedicated to Lord Sundareshwara. On today’s auspicious occasion, and as part of KAILASA’s Ishanya Project, Annadhaan was offered, with some 26,800 individual servings of food being provided to locals, homeless and hungry from around the Madurai region.

With the blessings of the Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism, HDH Bagawan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam, the Madurai center celebrates all major festivals and celebrations, with the majority offering Annadhaan. The festivals attract thousands of people from the Madurai region, grateful to be taking in the highly nutritious, pure vegetarian, free food on offer.

Annadhaan is a Sanskrit term, from ‘Annam’ meaning food, and ‘Daanam’ meaning donate. Annadhaan, an essential part of Sanatana Hindu Dharma, is considered ‘Mahadhan’, the greatest donation possible, and is an integral part of the Ishanya Project.
