Skanda Shashti is the sixth day of the waxing phase of the moon in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October–November), celebrated as the day when Bhagavan Murugan vanquished the demon Surapadman, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

The Skanda Shashti Kavacham, composed by the great saint Bala Devaraya Swamigal, is a powerful hymn invoking the protective grace and blessings of Lord Murugan. Chanting it on this sacred day is said to remove obstacles, protect from harm, and grant spiritual strength and courage.
